The “Multiconfigurational Time-Dependent Hartree for Bosons” (MCTDHB) method
(http://mctdhb.org) has been applied very successfully in studying the ground-state prop-
erties and highly non-equilibrium quantum dynamics of interacting trapped bosons in one
spatial dimension (PRL 106 240401, NJP 13 043003 , PRL 103 220601). In this talk we
are going to present first results with the MCTDHB in two spatial dimensions (2D). As
a concrete example, we will show an exact numerical many-body study of the transition
from a condensed state to a Mott-state of several interacting bosons on a real-space
lattice in 2D
