The LHeC project aims to supplement the CERN machine infrastructure with a (nominally 60 GeV) electron accelerator, producing electron-proton collisions at an instantaneous luminosity of order 1033 cm-2 s^-1 simultaneously with the existing LHC proton-proton collisions. An electron-ion programme is also foreseen. This seminar will give an overview of the physics potential of an LHeC with this specification and will also briefly cover accelerator, interaction region and detector aspects.

This talk is part of the Cavendish HEP Seminars series.
