Attendees' registration is required on http://www.ceb.cam.ac.uk/pages/alumni-speaker-series.html Sustainability is the subject of many interesting and well meaning conversations and glossy airport lounge publications. However, to ensure that the principles of sustainable development help businesses to deliver improved profit, there are two challenges to overcome. Firstly, understanding what sustainable development is and second, turning the well meaning words into actions with clear objectives and returns. We will discuss specific examples of how this has been done and how good engineers can be the key to making it happen. Anthony Hyde is a Director of Arcadis, the international consultancy group, where he is responsible for their infrastructure and water division consulting operations, serving clients in the oil and gas, energy, transport and water sectors. Anthony completed his Ph.D. In 1990 after four happy years at Girton College and joined Arthur D. Little, the international strategy and operations management consultancy, where he spent eighteen years working for clients all over the world. He then spent three years with the French compliance management group, Bureau Veritas, reshaping their consulting group, before joining Arcadis earlier this year. Anthony lives in Cambridge and remains involved in student life as Secretary of the University cricket club and trustee of the Hawks’ Club. This talk is part of the CEB Alumni Speaker Series series.
