Childhood obesity is a growing concern world-wide. This seminar will outline
the ongoing inter-disciplinary work on childhood and obesity being carried
out by the International Centre for Research in Children’s Literature,
Literacy and Creativity at the University of Worcester. Consideration will
also be given to differing cultural attitudes towards obesity and the
construction of the overweight child in literature and the media since the
nineteenth century.
Jean Webb is Professor of International Children’s Literature at the
University of Worcester. She is Director of the International Centre for
Research in Children’s Literature, Literacy and Creativity.
