The search for hidden patterns in large amounts of data is the common element that links many seemingly disparate fields in science. In this talk we will explore how these techniques are being used to derive predictive models of cancer development based on medical imaging data. In particular, we will discuss the development of biological observables, or “biomarkers”, that can predict treatment response; and how integrative data-driven models can help with the study of tumour heterogeneity.
