If you have a question about this talk, please contact Stephen Walley. The overlayers formed by chiral molecules on achiral single-crystal surfaces can provide fundamental insight about, amongst other things, the action of chiral modifiers in enantioselective heterogeneous catalysis. In this talk, I will consider the factors that influence the chirality at different length-scales of amino acid overlayers on the structurally similar Cu{110} and Cu{311} surfaces. Experimental data from a range of techniques, including RAIRS , LEED, and STM , will be presented, and I will discuss our attempts to rationalise the data using density functional theory.
