Quantum optics in mesoscopic systems

Mesoscopic systems such as semiconductor quantum dots or carbon nanotubes have emerged as new paradigms for studying quantum optical phenomena. I will describe two experiments in this new field, demonstrating cavity-QED using a single quantum dot and optical pumping of quantum dot nuclear spin ensembles.
