Dr Thomas Stone, Clinical Scientist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital will explore an inside out model of medical device development or how clinical engineering departments within the NHS support healthcare innovation and the development, adoption and spread of technology to address unmet needs. A variety of devices from surgical instruments to assistive devices for those with limited movement have been developed in this way. The talk will look at the journey and how engineers embedded within the healthcare system approach problem solving. Dr Stone will also cover the collaboration with the engineering design centre at Cambridge university to establish new and robust design practices within Cambridge University Hospital.
