This lecture explores questions about the ideological impact of the British rule in India and how it had been translated across visual representations of cultural conflicts and racial hierarchies. A particular focus is put on comparing first person visual narratives, i.e. colonial amateur films, with commercial and propaganda productions.
This talk is part of the Visual Rhetoric and modern South Asian history (2015-16) series.
