Antimafia investigations are as old as the Sicilian Mafia itself, but the debate about what the Mafia is remains unresolved. The paper follows this conundrum from the Palermo maxi-trial to current magistrates’ and investigators’ dilemmas and conceptions in the province of Trapani.
