To mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, memorial, multi-disciplinary, peace conference is being organised by the Cambridge Alumni and the PEXIM Foundation Alumni. The organizers are supported by Sir Paul Judge (Knight, Aldermanic Sheriff of the City of London), the principal benefactor of Judge Business School. The conference will be hosted at University of Cambridge Judge Business School, ranked as one of the world’s leading business schools.

The desirable outcome of this conference is that notable audience gets more familiar about the current economic and political landscape and memory projects related to The Great War legacy in the fields of: international development, innovation and youth employment, education and culture. Proceedings from the conference will be recorded and possibly published in other ways if the speakers agree on that proposal. Moreover, the conference considers key premises of leadership considering the pivotal role of great man who worked on international peace.

The keynote speakers will include :

Professor Dominic Lieven, Cambridge University Faculty of History: The Great War Underlying Causes and Implications; Virginia Crompton, Executive Producer of the First World War Centenary for the British Council and of The Last Post project for Superact:Public Engagement and the First World War Centenary; Aleksandar Protić, Federal Counselor at UNESCO Federation of France: Memory Projects Fostering Intercultural Understanding about the Great War; Professor Simon Stockley, Cambridge Judge Business School: Innovation as a Catalyst for Youth Leadership a Century after the Great War.

Speakers’ biographies:

Dominic Lieven graduated first in his year, 1973, at the University of Cambridge. He was a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard and, on completing his PhD, became a lecturer in the Department of Government at the London School of Economics, where he was Professor of Russian Government, before teaching at Cambridge Faculty of History. Lieven has also been a visiting professor at Tokyo and Harvard Universities, as well as a Humboldt Fellow in Gottingen and Munich. He has published widely, writing on aristocracy, late imperial Russia, and empire. He is a Fellow of the British Academy.

Virginia Crompton’s 18 year career at the BBC falls neatly into two halves. As a radio documentary producer, Virginia originated the flagship Radio 4 history series, The Long View. From 2004-2012 she launched and ran the BBC ’s international school partnership project, World Class which was a legacy for the BBC ’s Olympic broadcasting and reached one million children. Virginia left the BBC last year to develop projects for the First World War Centenary and is delivering two British Council partnership initiatives, as well as The Last Post project, which is a public participation project for the UK and part of the government’s official programme. Virginia has a PhD in English Literature from the University of East Anglia and a degree from the University of Cambridge.

Aleksandar Protic was educated at Sorbonne, International Diplomatic Academy and Prime Minister of France National School of Governance, and also is Harvard and Cambridge Executive Education Alumni. He is actively engaged in UNESCO activities organizing high-level conferences and designing educational, cultural and scientific programs. Founder of Tesla Memory Project, Aleksandar is also devoted to the popularization of science. He gave lectures before nomerous forums, institutions, as well as at Cambridge, Oxford, Sorbonne, Prime Minister of France National School of Governance, Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts etc.

Simon Stockley is a Teaching Fellow in Entrepreneurship at Cambridge Judge Business School and Deputy Director of Accelerate Cambridge, the School’s new enterprise accelerator. Prior to his recent appointment at Cambridge, Simon spent 10 years at Imperial College Business School as director of the full-time MBA programme and a principal teaching fellow. His MBA course in entrepreneurship was ranked 3rd in the world by the Financial Times. Outside work, Simon is a social entrepreneur and an advocate for trafficked women, in which capacity he has advised Parliament. He holds several non-executive directorships and has advised well over 100 technology start-ups.

This Conference is free and open to all with no ticket or pre-registration required. The conference will be held at Lecture Theatre 3.

The Conference will be followed by a cocktail buffet.
