We introduce the concept of quantum information and some of its basic properties at a non-technical level. We present the protocol of quantum teleportation and two fundamental physical principles satisfied by quantum information processing: “information cannot travel faster than light” and “quantum information cannot be cloned”. Finally, we discuss how these physical principles imply bounds on the efficiency of some quantum information protocols, which have application to new technologies under current theoretical research.
