If you have a question about this talk, please contact Ewa Illakowicz. This talk has been canceled/deleted This seminar comes out of a small-scale research project still in progress, funded by the British Academy, into the teaching of poetry in schools, colleges and universities within the local Cambridge area. We were particularly interested in perceptions of the challenges involved, how they change in relation to different age groups, and what expectations there are of children’s knowledge, engagement and expertise in relation to poetry as they move through successive stages of their education. The investigation focused on the areas of: reception and memory; understanding and interpretation; writing poetry; teaching technical aspects; and curricular and institutional pressures. We will present our initial findings and explore some emerging implications. This talk is part of the Centre for Research in Children's Literature at Cambridge series.
