Drawing on Eisentstein’s “The Battleship Potemkin”, I will explore Deleuze’s concept of the movement-image in pre-war cinema and the development of the time-image in modern film. This will lead up to an introduction to Deleuze’s concept of the ‘Spiritual Automaton’ and a discussion of the relationship between cinema and thought.
