The postwar development of the Church of England is explored through a new framework of institutional analysis that identifies three dimensions of institutional change: (1) the degree of institutionalization, (2) the structure and meaning, (3) the prevalence. Through the framework the complexity of institutional change can be better understood, as illustrated by the case of the Church of England. Specifically, attention will be paid to the recent relative success of conservative religion to withstand processes of secularization. With the use of the framework a tentative explanation of this phenomenon will be offered.
