If you have a question about this talk, please contact Tim Rance. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a programmer for one of the world’s leading video game developers? Lionhead Studios, part of Microsoft Corporation, would like to invite you to find out more. Please join us for drinks and a 30 minute presentation on Tuesday 9th November at 7pm in the Rushmore Room, St Catharine’s College. Lionhead’s Jonathan Shaw – the Lead Game Programmer on Fable III – will be presenting a talk on Fable III . A game like Fable III is incredibly complex, with many different gameplay systems all interacting with each other – for example, a villager’s opinion of the player is influenced by things ranging from how the player has just interacted with them, to whether they have set their prices too high at the local shop that they own. Add another player into the mix, plus the ability to marry any number of different heroes that visit your world, and things start getting more complicated very quickly. In this talk we will learn about some of the challenges that needed to be overcome when adding full multiplayer into the mix, and how we approached tackling them. Lionhead studios offers a number of programming internships and graduate employment opportunities aimed at the brightest and the best students.
