The talk will delve into the complex interplay between the human rights situation in Thailand, with a spotlight on freedom of expression, and the country’s foreign policy approach to human rights. Dr Pavin Chachavalpongpun is a former diplomat and an Associate Professor at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Kyoto University in Japan. His research interests include Thailand’s domestic political and international relations, particularly the role of the Thai monarchy in the political domain in the past decades; politics of Myanmar and Indochinese states; politics of ASEAN ; and the concept of nationalism and its relevance to domestic and foreign policy.
