While we are surrounded in our digital lives by digital characters and avatars making any kind of emotional connection to those characters is awkward, fleeting and generally unrewarding. Emotion AI, like researchers in the affective computing field, is trying to bridge the “digital divide” by developing technologies to give digital characters the ability to consistently connect emotionally, socially and effectively with us.
