If you have a question about this talk, please contact njd51. To celebrate Disability History Month 2023, the Disabled Staff Network of the University of Cambridge invites you to a hybrid screening of the documentary Crip Camp – A disability Revolution. The film tells the story of a revolution blossomed in the early 1970s, in Camp Jened, a ramshackle summer camp for teenagers with disabilities, transforming their lives and igniting a landmark movement. Crip Camp is about the emotional experience of finding community and yourself for the first time and the power of realising that a better life is possible through social change. According to the production team, the film tells the story of one group of people and captures one moment in time. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of other equally important stories from the Disability Rights Movement that have not yet received adequate attention. During this Disability History Month, the University’s Disabled Staff Network organises this screening and discussion hoping to create a safe space and opportunity for reflecting on and sharing such stories. In these challenging times, we are aware that meeting each other and building community against the intersectional marginalisations we experience in and outside of work is urgent for all of us. The room is fully accessible, and we will make sure that all the necessary precautions against COVID -19 are kept. This talk is part of the CRASSH series.
