DESCRIPTION:To celebrate Disability History Month 2023\, the D
isabled Staff Network of the University of Cambrid
ge invites you to a hybrid screening of the docume
ntary Crip Camp - A disability Revolution. The fil
m tells the story of a revolution blossomed in the
early 1970s\, in Camp Jened\, a ramshackle summer
camp for teenagers with disabilities\, transformi
ng their lives and igniting a landmark movement.\n
\nCrip Camp is about the emotional experience of f
inding community and yourself for the first time a
nd the power of realising that a better life is po
ssible through social change. According to the pro
duction team\, the film tells the story of one gro
up of people and captures one moment in time. Ther
e are hundreds\, if not thousands\, of other equal
ly important stories from the Disability Rights Mo
vement that have not yet received adequate attenti
on. During this Disability History Month\, the Uni
versity’s Disabled Staff Network organises this sc
reening and discussion hoping to create a safe spa
ce and opportunity for reflecting on and sharing s
uch stories. In these challenging times\, we are a
ware that meeting each other and building communit
y against the intersectional marginalisations we e
xperience in and outside of work is urgent for all
of us.\n\nThe room is fully accessible\, and we w
ill make sure that all the necessary precautions a
 gainst COVID-19 are kept.
