Studies in Dexter Energy Transfer with Quantum Dot Donors

Dexter Energy Transfer is a double electron exchange that allows for selective sensitization of the triplet states of molecule and ions, with applications in photocatalysis, upconversion, and possibly quantum information. Colloidal quantum dots are excellent candidates for such triplet sensitization schemes because of their small “singlet-triplet splittings” and high photoluminescence quantum yields.

This talk explores the mechanisms of Dexter energy transfer from a quantum dot to either an adsorbed molecule or an embedded lanthanide ion, and the application of Marcus Theory to describe the kinetics of these processes.
