On January 31st, Trinity Politics Society is thrilled to be collaborating with the Trinity College Feminism Society to host a panel discussion on harassment of women in the workplace and the ILO Convention on Violence and Harassment in the World of Work. Exploring this topic will be two representatives from ActionAid UK, Dame Athene Donald, and Valerie Gibson.

ActionAid is an organization that is committed to empowering disadvantaged women and girls. Their work focuses on providing long-term solutions to violence and poverty and involves developing relationships with communities most in need of aid. In the event of humanitarian crises, ActionAid believes in empowering local women to rebuild their own communities.

Dame Athene Donald is the master of Churchill College, Cambridge and has published over 250 papers in the fields of soft matter and the interaction between biology and physics. Due to her lifelong commitment to working towards gender equality at Cambridge and in academia, she was awarded the Times Higher Education Lifetime Achievement Award. Between 2010 and 2014, she served as the first University Gender Equality Champion.

Valerie Gibson, University Professor, Head of the Cavendish’s High Energy Physics Research Group, and current University Gender Equality Champion, is an advocate for women in science. Her work in the Cavendish Laboratory helped it to achieve an Athena SWAN Gold Award in 2014. She is also Chair of the LHCb Collaboration Board and a member of the Atom Interferometer Observatory and Network project.

This panel of representatives will discuss the topic and then open up the floor to a Q&A. As always, drinks and nibbles will be provided!

This talk is part of the Trinity Politics Society series.
