The LIGO Scientific Collaboration and the Virgo Collaboration have today announced the second detection of a binary black hole coalescence. They have also released a paper summarising all of the results of the first observing run of Advanced LIGO , which ran from September 2015 until January this year. I will summarise the key results from this exciting
announcement, focusing on their astrophysical implications.
