We’re delighted to welcome Bill Baxter, Director of inkjet company Inca Digital to speak to Cambridge Network members on Tuesday 21 May.

Bill Baxter took Engineering at Cambridge and worked in various roles in R&D and consulting, in the UK, Singapore and Germany.

In 1997, one of Bill’s clients asked him “why can’t I print my packaging when the product goes in the pack, so I don’t have to carry so much stock?” That question triggered an interest in inkjet printing that led, in May 2000, to the setting up of Inca Digital Printers with six employees and a distribution agreement with Sericol, a UK-based ink manufacturer.

In April 2001 the first series product was shipped: an Eagle 44 that was still in daily use ten years later. Inca was profitable by its third year, and in 2005 was acquired by Dainippon Screen Manufacturing of Kyoto Japan, shortly after Sericol was acquired by Fujifilm. Bill continued as CEO apart from a break working directly for Screen from 2009.

Today Inca employs over 200 staff in UK, USA and continental Europe, and its machines are sold all over the world. Bill stepped down as CEO in April 2013 but continues as a director.
