LfL and PLACE Academic Group Discussion Seminar

The government in England has specified that the national curriculum for primary and secondary education in England will be organised as subjects. The programmes of study for the “key subjects” of English, maths, science and physical education are currently the focus for the first phase of a public consultation. This consultation is also asking which other subjects should be included in the national curriculum: for example, should music be a subject in the national curriculum, or ICT ?

Professor Mary James, who is a member of the national curriculum review expert panel, will be sharing her expertise with participants at the seminar. We invite all members of the faculty to discuss the implications of the government’s proposals with a view to producing a response.

It is intended that the seminar will be an open discussion about the national curriculum but we also welcome five minute presentations from participants. Please contact Dominic Wyse (bdw28@cam.ac.uk) if you would like to present.

In preparation for the seminar it would be ideal if participants could complete the online consultation as a way to update on the key issues and to influence this important process:
