If you have a question about this talk, please contact Catherine Pearson.

This talk will discuss the benefits of modelling and analysing soil at the scale of individual particles from the perspective of geotechnical engineering. The presentation will be given in two parts: Catherine O’Sullivan will give an introduction to discrete element modelling, a technique for simulating systems of interacting particles, then Joana Fonseca will introduce microcomputed tomography as a tool to characterise soil at the particle scale.

This talk is part of the Seminars for the Institute for Energy and Environmental Flows (formerly BP Institute) series.
