In this seminar I will give a brief overview of the applications of THz technology in the world of medicine followed by a closer look at how we can use THz pulses as a tool to aid clinicians in identifying cancerous tissue during at the diagnosis stage or for removal during surgery. We will look at the work done to characterise the behaviour of THz pulses with biological materials and how contrasts can be seen between normal and cancerous tissue. The talk will end with a glance at a new medical probe which has been developed by TeraView Ltd. for use in surgery on breast cancer patients and an outline and discussion of future research possibilities
