The talk will outline the formidable turbulence modelling task, overview some global (RANS) models & their limitations. It will then show for the newer Large Eddy Simulation (LES) approach the model is not that important. The talk will outline the things for LES that matter and their order of importance. Mixing LES & RANS models will then be discussed. Finally RANS model defects and their management will be considered.

This talk is part of the Seminars for the Institute for Energy and Environmental Flows (formerly BP Institute) series.
