UCU negotiates pensions on behalf of all academic and many academic-related staff, regardless of whether they are members or not. Our branch has invited the UCU National Pensions Official, Christine Haswell, to speak at this open meeting to explain and discuss the new Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) pensions scheme, which is now in full operation, with CRB replacing Final Salary from 1 October 2016. We will also discuss the complex choices that face members regarding the Investment Builder investment scheme that replaces additional voluntary contributions.

We are also reaching the triennial valuation of USS , the outcome of which may affect all members. Christine will talk to us about the importance of this valuation for us all. Up for discussion will be:

  • how the scheme operates
  • what happens when you change jobs
  • whether you can draw benefits before retirement
  • how to negotiate the choices the scheme offers
  • the triennial scheme valuation

This meeting is open to all, so please do bring your friends and colleagues even if they aren’t members.
