Obesity is increasing with over half of all men and women in the UK being classed as overweight in 2013, while approximately a quarter are considered to be obese. The increasing body weight and fat mass within the population results in increased health complications and challenges in diagnostic imaging. Unsatisfactory images are not uncommon in projection radiography and in dual energy x-ray absorptiometry, increased precision errors makes the monitoring of therapeutic interventions difficult. This presentation will cover the challenges related to projection radiography and DXA scanning in this population and will propose some methods to mitigate these.
