After discussing current definitions of frailty, the main contributions in the field from the group of the speaker will be briefly reviewed. The lack of resources which can be mobilized at short notice in response to stressing events characterizes frailty of old age, but can be present at younger ages when chronic inflammatory diseases develop. The major impact is suffered by the mobility/ability on the neuromuscular front, and by the immune response to known or memory, and new pathogens.
