September 14 sees the launch of a major new book by the philosopher Gerard de Vries on the work of Bruno Latour. To mark the event, CRASSH is hosting a lecture by Professor Latour, followed by the launch of the book and a moderated conversation between him and Professor de Vries. Afterwards there will be a drinks reception in the Atrium of the Alison Richard building. All welcome, but it’s important to register beforehand.

About the speakers

Bruno Latour is a distinguished philosopher and an anthropologist. From 1982 to 2006, he was a professor at the Centre de Sociologie de l’Innovation at the Ecole Nationale SupĂ©rieure des Mines in Paris and has held visiting professorships at UCSD , the London School of Economics and in the History of Science department at Harvard

Since 2006 he has been professor at Sciences Po, Paris and is now director of the Sciences Po mĂ©dialab and Professor-at-Large at Cornell University. Recent works include Reassembling the Social: An Introduction to Actor-Network Theory, Our Modern Cult of the Factish Gods, Rejoicing – Or the Torments of Religious Speech and An Inquiry into Modes of Existence. He curated the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe exhibitions ICONOCLASH (2002), Making Things Public (2005) and, recently, Reset Modernity! He has also co-edited the accompanying catalogues, which are published by MIT Press.

Gerard de Vries is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy of Science at the University of Amsterdam. From 2005 to 2015 he was a member of the Council of the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy, an independent think tank of the Dutch government whose members include prominent social scientists, economists, and legal scholars.
