If you have a question about this talk, please contact Simon Hoyte. “This century is the first in Earth’s history spanning 45 million centuries that one species, ours, has the power to determine the fate of the entire biosphere” Professor Lord Rees is well-known as one of the country’s most senior scientists in his capacity as Astronomer Royal at the University of Cambridge. However, he is also a co-founder of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) in Cambridge, an initiative dedicated to studying and mitigating against technological and environmental risks that could lead to human extinction. He has authored 11 books and hundreds of academic articles, adequately qualifying him to address such questions as: Will the human race survive the 21st Century?
