If you have a question about this talk, please contact Nami Norman. This talk has been canceled/deleted “Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) is corrosion-resistant”. Whilst this statement is true in the electrochemical sense, carbon fibre-epoxy composites are permeable to aqueous solutions, which can cause matrix swelling and softening. What might the effect of these processes be on the durability of such materials when used to prestress concrete in aggressive marine environments? This talk will review work in progress where experiments have been conducted to observe aqueous solution uptake and swelling in CFRP prestressing tendons. A model to predict how solution uptake may propagate through such tendons at locations where cracks develop in the concrete cover will also be presented.
