Dr Madsen Pirie is the founder and current president of the Adam Smith Institute, a think-tank that promotes libertarian and free market ideas. He is an alumnus of Pembroke College, having taken up an MPhil in Land Economy after completing his PhD in Philosophy at the University of St Andrews. Madsen has also written extensively on economics, politics and logic, having authored several books such as The Book of the Fallacy, Micropolitics, Privatization, How to Win Every Argument, 101 Great Philosophers, Blueprint for a Revolution, and Freedom 101. Madsen will be coming to Pembroke College’s Old Library on Friday the 30th October at 6pm to discuss how ideas of idealism, versus empiricism, instruct political ideology today.
