In one of the classic feminist essays of the twentieth century, anthropologist Emily Martin argued that the master narrative of the egg and sperm recapitulates deeply gendered narratives of romance and adventure.
Offering a challenge to these cultural scripts, Martin called for alternatives, including new models of both biology and culture. The Reproductive Sociology Research Group (ReproSoc) is proud to sponsor Professor Martin’s reprise of her original essay on the eve of its 25th anniversary.
