If you have a question about this talk, please contact . The Department of Chemistry invites you to a screening of the acclaimed documentary Fire in the Blood, introduced by Dr Yusuf Hamied, who personally contributed to the film. It will be followed by a Q&A session and drinks reception. All members of the University are welcome to attend and the event is free of charge. This is one of the events celebrating the honorary doctorate that low-cost generic pharmaceutical pioneer Dr Hamied (Christ’s 1954) will receive from the University in June. “[The film] records how a remarkable group of dedicated men and women on four continents, including Desmond Tutu and Dr Yusuf Hamied (the enlightened head of the Indian pharmaceutical company Cipla), worked and campaigned together to compel the world’s major pharmaceutical giants to make antiretrovirals (ARVs) available to people with HIV and Aids the world over as generic drugs. This co-operative triumph has saved millions of lives and much suffering.” – Philip French, The Observer, 24 February 2013 This talk is part of the msn28's list series.
