Focusing on the EALB broadens the scope of the study for analysis of the imperial and transnational literary transfers. Analysis of the EALB archives will especially direct attention to particular instances, actors, and enactments of colonial and postcolonial literary modernity. It will also illuminate some of the ways in which this involves a reworking of the civilizing mission into the imperial project of decolonization.
