Academics tend to place their self-worth in their accomplishments, leading one to compare oneself to others, as well as a relentless pressure to perform. Professor Su will explain how he has learned to counter this tendency in his own life, and the positive impacts that kindness and grace have had on his teaching, his work with students, and on his personal identity.
Professor Su is the 2013 winner of the Haimo Award, the highest teaching prize of the Mathematical Association of America, and he is its newly elected president. He is the Benediktsson-Karwa Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, USA .
