Measuring, modelling and moderating urban microclimates

Abstract: In the future urban heat island effects may combine with climate change warming to create thermally uncomfortable localised urban microclimates that could have adverse impacts on internal comfort conditions. Mesurements and modelling studies have been undetaken in three locations (UK, Egypt and Bahrain) to examine in urban form factors can be effective in moderating adverse urban microclimates.

Biography: Professor Steve Sharples is Head of Sustainable Environmental Design in the School of Architecture at the University of Liverpool. His research investigates the environmental impact and performance of buildings and urban environments in the context of climate change and low carbon, sustainable design.
