Gavin Bate, founder of Moving Mountains Trust and Adventure Alternative, speaks about ‘Fair Trade Volunteering’, the ethics of ‘voluntourism’ and 30 years spent working in Africa, climbing mountains around the world and promoting sustainable development. The considerable time that Gavin has spent in the aid industry and travelling around the world has given him invaluable insight into how developmental aid can make a difference. In setting up Moving Mountains, which works to support people not only today, but into the future, he has built a specific financial model around a number of principles that have shown how money can best be spent in such diverse areas as Kenya, Nepal and Borneo.
