This talk explores the reasons for (and the results of) successive transport innovations in Cambridge and the surrounding area, including the street tramways, the attempts from the 1920s to the present day to adapt the city to the motor vehicle, and the changing role of the railways. Tony Kirby was formerly Co-ordinator of Strategic Planning for Anglia Ruskin University, and remains an Honorary Research Fellow. He is a former President of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society and Chair of the Cambridgeshire Records Society. This talk is part of the Open Cambridge talks series.
