Wednesday 9th February, 7pm-8pm St John’s College Old Music Room Viscount Monckton is a former SpAd to Lady Thatcher and currently Deputy Leader of UKIP . He is described as “a fervent, forthright and opinionated Roman Catholic Tory”, credited with being “the brains behind the Thatcherite policy of giving council tenants (public housing) the right to buy their homes”. He is quoted as having said “The Scots are subsidy junkies whingeing like crumpled bagpipes and waiting for a fix of English taxpayers’ money” and that the UK should “leave the European Union, close down 90 per cent of government services and shift power away from the atheistic, humanistic government and into the hands of families and individuals.”.
