If you have a question about this talk, please contact . On 18 February, Professor Robert Bud, Principal Curator of Medicine at the Science Museum, will be visiting Cambridge to give a talk. The occasion is a production of Steve Reich and Beryl Korot’s video opera ‘Three Tales’ – a work which explores the role of technology in the twentieth century through a close examination of three major events: the explosion of the Hindenburg zeppelin, the atom bomb tests at Bikini Atoll, and the cloning of Dolly the Sheep. The third tale, ‘Dolly’, expands into a broader discussion of genetic engineering and the concept of man as a machine. It also features interviews with numerous leading commentators, including Richard Dawkins, Marvin Minsky and Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz. Professor Bud, in addition to his role at the Science Museum, is also a long-standing visiting research scholar in Cambridge’s History and Philosophy of Science department, and has published numerous books, including the first ever history of biotechnology (‘The Uses of Life’), and ‘Penicillin: Triumph and Tragedy’. His short talk will be a fascinating insight into some of his work and there will be a chance to ask questions. The talk is at 10.15pm in the ADC ’s Larkum Studio, and entry is included in the price of a ticket to the show, which begins at 11.00. The show is also running on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and other talks are running on Friday and Saturday.
