Pride Month Talk: Scattering atoms, electrons and perceptions

Speaker: Dr Clara Barker

Biography: Dr Barker is a thin film material scientist, currently specialising in thin film superconductors for quantum and fusion applications. She is a Daphne Jackson Research Fellow (sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry) in the Centre for Applied Superconductivity at Oxford University, Dean for E&D at Linacre College and the Institute of Physics’ Representative to Council for Inclusion and Diversity.

She sits on the Royal Society’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee. She won a Points of Light award for my volunteering from the Prime Minister in 2017 and Oxford University’s first VC Diversity Role Model award in 2018. She was a speaker at TEDxLondon Women in 2018 and was featured in three books aimed at highlighting LGBTI + scientists (Science People, Engineers Making a Difference, A Year of Pride and Joy and Rebel Girls Celebrate Pride). She is also a climber and a board game/ D&D nerd.
