This talk will present preliminary results of a palynological study undertaken at Hepple Wilds as part of the UKRI Rewilding Later Prehistory project. The project aims to better understand late prehistoric human impact on the landscape on a rewilding estate, and an area rich in archaeological remains. The evidence for farming activity from other Northumberland pollen records will also be scrutinized and compared with Bronze Age, Iron Age, and Roman archaeological sites heat maps. But is palaeoecological evidence consistent with archaeological evidence? More broadly, this presentation will ask how palaeoecological and archaeological research can contribute to future nature recovery.
