Lent Term Call for Papers

This year, the Black Advisory Hub invites Black-identifying postgraduate students (both Masters and PhD) to be part of our inaugural symposium series!

We recognise that there are limited spaces where we can celebrate the innovative, exciting and impactful research being undertaken by Black postgraduate students at the University of Cambridge across various fields. We therefore are running a Black Postgraduate Symposium series, with three separate events across this academic year.

For the Lent Term symposium, we are keen to hear from any Black PhD student – irrespective of field and topic area – who would like to present their PhD work to other Black researchers. This will be a relatively informal event with a friendly audience, with the expectation that presenters will adapt their delivery to suit a non-disciplinary audience.

The symposium will take place on March 10 from 17:00-20:00. Presenters will be expected to prepare a 15-minute presentation, leaving 10 minutes for any questions at the end. The last hour of the event will be reserved for reception.

To apply, please complete the following form. You will need to submit a 250-word max. abstract and 100 word bio for consideration.

Call for papers due date: Mon, February 20, 2025, 11:59pm BST

Form: https://forms.office.com/e/EQHh1eLQcE

For more information, or to propose to present or coordinate a symposium theme for future events, please contact the Black Advisory Hub at: contact@blackadvisory.hub.cam.ac.uk or the organiser of this event, Darold Cuba at: dbc34@cam.ac.uk

The call is open to all topics, with the consideration that this Lent term celebrates both LGBTQ + History Month and Women’s History Month in February and March respectively.

The symposium will take place on Monday March 10th from 17:00-20:00. Presenters will be expected to prepare a 15-minute presentation, leaving 10 minutes for any questions at the end. The last hour of the event will be reserved for socialising and networking.
