Knowing what influences individuals’ decisions to adopt sustainable land-use practices can guide strategies to encourage these. However, such individuals’ decisions are complex, and interdisciplinary social sciences are needed to understand drivers of sustainable land-use adoption and the appropriate socio-economic incentives.

Dr Aiora Zabala is Assistant Professor at the Department of Land Economy and Director of the MSt Climate, Environmental and Urban Policy. Her research interests are in environmental governance and sustainability policy implementation and effectiveness. This includes adoption and diffusion of innovative land-use practices, policy acceptability, and drivers and motivations of behavioural change.

Prisca Kouakou is studying for a PhD in Human Geography, supervised by Professor Rachael Garrett and co-supervised by Professor Johan Six. She has an interdisciplinary background in environmental science, ecology, and policy analysis. Her Ph.D. focuses on understanding the conditions under which supply chain sustainability initiatives can lead to agroforestry adoption and how that influences social and ecological outcomes in the cocoa sector of Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana.
