Warfare in the Mediterranean Region in the Age of the Crusades 1095-1291: A Clash of Contrasts A veteran of over forty years of teaching and research at the University of Swansea, where he also served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Prof. France is a specialist on medieval warfare and the history of the crusading movement. Among his works are Victory in the East: A Military History of the First Crusade and Western Warfare in the Age of the Crusades, 1000-1300, as well as numerous articles on diverse topics on the history of medieval Europe including studies on historiography, saints and monasticism, property and crusader motivation.
