This roundtable welcomes graduate students conducting research on Asia’s heritage to discuss key issues encountered during fieldwork under the disciplinary framework of Heritage Studies. In particular, we aim to explore challenges such as: ·Difficulties in applying Western-centric research methods and concepts in Asian contexts: theoretical bias, linguistic and epistemic barriers, and limited inclusion ·Challenges in establishing cooperation with local communities and institutions ·The complexities of studying heritage in societies with different cultural, social, and historical frameworks. The goal of this session is to articulate these challenges and foster dialogue around pragmatic approaches to studying Asia’s heritage within the broader framework of Heritage Studies.
